Reeds at Lazy Otter

The fog was thick this morning so landscape wasn't an option nor the photographing of birds.   Nothing was about so decided to focus on graphic images - some of reeds and others of things floating on the surface of the Great Ouse.    All very minimalist.......

Anglers on The Cam

Yesterday was cold and misty and made for some atmospheric pictures around Baits Bite Lock.   These four anglers had taken the day off work to enjoy one of the last days before the fishing season on rivers closes on 15 March.

Meeting a friend's new horse

Linda has imported this horse, Tina, from The Netherlands and will break her to drive a carriage.   She is only four years old and is responding well to her new environment.   I shall enjoy meeting her again - she's lovely!

Bottisham Lock

It was very exciting seeing a pair of Kingfishers flying past as I was getting out of the car.   I didn't see two again but saw a single Kingfisher a couple of times.   Any photograph of a Kingfisher here will be difficult because of the backgrounds being so 'busy'.

Most bird activity is now related to pairing up and anticipating the breeding season - Reed Buntings, Mute Swans, Kingfishers.

Bude Sea Pool

After taking photographs of surfers at Bude just outside the Sea Pool, it was then time to photograph the effects of the incoming tide and later some images with a slow shutter speed.   I found this very exciting and have plenty such images yet to work on.   The evening light was lovely.

I shall be working on images from my recent trip to the North Cornwall Coast for a while and have been amazed by some of the antics involved in riding the waves!  

The evening light was also in our favour and came into its own when the tide flooded the Lido.   The hour or so we spent alongside the Lido made me recall those inspiring images of Susan Brown's, but my endeavours will appear in a different posting.

Birds at Clayhithe

A chilly morning at Clayhithe.   On a Sunday there aren't quite so many cyclists on the towpath for their ride to be disturbed by a couple of hearing loss dogs!

The Cormorant was in full breeding plummage so in time there will be young to look out for.   The Mute Swan conveniently flew overhead and the Buzzard stayed at a long distance!

Trebarwith Bay, Cornwall

The delay in recent postings has been because I spent last week based near Bude on a photography workshop - and had a wonderful time.   The weather was variable but on a couple of the days we had sunshine.   I really enjoyed taking landscape images of this coastline with as full a depth of focus as possible.   Now I find I could do with a whole load of additional photographic equipment..........!

Roe Deer near Research Park

The owners of these deer kindly let me take some closer photographs of their small herd.   It had been a very cold night and there was frost still on their fur, particularly along the length of their spine!   Quite some insulation.   The stag is separate from the does at present - until his antlers drop and then he can be with the rest again.

Cormorants

Having seen markings on a couple of Cormorants recently which I hadn't known about, I decided to find out.   If there are grey/white feathers on the neck, it is an indication it is a juvenile bird, and when one can see a white patch underneath the wing it is an indication that it is getting ready for the breeding season.
