Great Spotted Woodpecker

So many of the garden birds I photograph through the kitchen window are on bird feeders, so I was particularly delighted when this morning there was a Great Spotted Woodpecker on the eucalyptus tree when I was at the kitchen sink.   This is a male bird because of the red patch at the back of the neck.

Apple blossoms in the garden

I think this blog is up and running again.   It's now up to me.......

The apple blossoms this year have been beautiful and Apple Blossom is one of my favourite, if not the favourite blossom.   I have 3 different Apple Blossoms in the garden and here are some images.

Another attempt to post....

I really don't have any excuse not to post these days of self-isolation at home.   I've been taking photographs of birds and flowering shrubs in the garden.   In the first instance - Bearded Iris, Crabapple Trees, Achtinidia, Lilac and Judas Tree

Hand Car Wash

What a high number of different cleaning products get used when one goes for a car wash!   Just one soapy product and water at home!   The Hand Car Wash just south of Stretham is so good and worth supporting.

'Hutton' - the Gerbil - 20 January

A friend has recently acquired this Gerbil.   He is likely to have a stimulating time as there are so many paper, wood, cardboard and sand adventures to be had in his 'cage'.   Again, I was using only a compact camera which did not make for easy photography as he moves suddenly and quickly and doesn't always choose a good place to be still momentarily.

Welney before Dawn - 19 January

It was an early start to be at Welney for 06.30 but well worth the effort.    These photographs were taken on a compact camera, a Sony RX100, and the first ones were taken at dawn and soon afterwards, and the last one in the cafe when we were enjoying breakfast out of the cold.   More photographs to follow of the Swans....

Setting Sun near Ely

The colours in the sky were confirming of the beauty of the Fens at this time of year.   Perhaps it's not usual to post a landscape in portrait format, but I am attracted to them. Tomorrow I shall be going to Welney WWT for Swans Awake - it is an early start!

Sunrise on The Cam

Last Saturday dawned with a wonderful sunrise and these photographs were taken alongside The Cam near Baits Bite Lock.   The range of colour was magical, and conveniently a Grey Heron flew overhead.   I could have lifted the brightness of some of these images, but am choosing not to as it was still quite dark when I got down to the river and there's a lot of pixilation in the photographs.   Even the lights on each of the boats were showing initially.   Although Roy doesn't look excited by the Men's First Crew from the Free Press Rowing Club, he was!
