Great Ouse

What a different colour palette there is when turning away from the rising sun.   I just love these subtle shades of blues and browns - and some reduction in vibrance.   Yes, the first one is monochrome.

Old Barn, Lazy Otter

The intensity of the colour around dawn was quite something today, added to which there was a frost and a mist!   Quite a morning......

In some of these images I've reduced the intensity of colour in the sunrise and in other instances I've converted to monochrome.   Another post will include images of the Great Ouse River, but the first topic of interest this morning was the Old Barn with the first of the morning light behind it.

 

 

Moonset before Sunrise

I should have taken a photograph of the sunrise to complement this Moonset which was taken from the Beechwoods before dawn this morning.   Although not taken from exactly the same spot, the differential focus gives a different feel to each of these images, and I was surprised how much detail there was when the focus was on the moon through branches.   These images reminded me of scenery in a theatre.

Amarylis

I was given this bulb at Christmas time and the extraordinary thing about it is that it doesn't need watering!   I should have photographed the casing around the bulb (which is decorative).   Another posting required....   I think it's rain on the outside of the window behind the bloom!   Will have to check before the next photograph.

Boo and Hugo

We had a visit from Boo's great, great grandson this afternoon.   Hugo is a lovely natured, good look hulk and will go far!   Boo is now 13 years old and Hugo just 5 months.   They were entirely relaxed in one another's company and I hope we shall see more of this delightful puppy.

Bottisham Lock - early

There was hardly any light when the first photograph was taken, and this version has been lightened more than I remember the level of light to have been to be sure there is something to see!   I'm getting very attached to the part of The Cam shown in monochrome this time.   If only I'd had a telephoto lens for the obliging Kingfisher which tolerated quite a close inspection (for a Kingfisher)!   Instead I had only a Sony compact operating at a high ISO.

Tubney Fen - again

This time Barbara J was with me, in the afternoon.   It was interesting for her as she had been taken there in the summer as an Adviser to the National Trust and subsequently I got the benefit of hearing something of the long term thinking about the macro management of the Fen as envisaged by The Trust.   Thankfully we did see a Short Eared Owl but not before we had been entertained by a couple of Konik Ponies.    The colour palette of a Short Eared Owl, Konik Pony and a Reed Bed in the winter provides such camouflage, and the warmth of the light dissipated as the gloaming increased.

Lake at Research Park at Dawn

Slightly different image of Dawn over the Lake at the Research Park,   It's tempting sometimes to edit the image so that it becomes attractive and/or well exposed when in fact that wouldn't represent the image as I saw it, remember it and photographed it.

Sunrise at Lazy Otter

It may not be everyone's choice to continue photographing sunrises, but this morning's sunrise included shafts of sunlight appearing above a dominant cloud and they were much more pronounced than usually seen.

Colourful Start to 2017 - Bottisham Lock

A wet start to the year in these parts.   However, I was thrilled to see a Kingfisher sitting on the tiller of a moored boat and surprised it let us get as close as we did.   Only record shots with such a high ISO setting but special nevertheless.

A 'gathering' of Long-Tailed Tits enjoyed food from a bird feeder very near a different boat at Bottisham Lock.   The second LTT image shows a tit tripping along the pole..... and so the new year is underway.
