Moon in the Morning

Wanted to get another contemporaneous posting done and enjoyed the range of subtle colours this morning's sky produced on the Research Park walk.   Not sure that I have a preference for the orientation of image......

Wengen III

The weather tended to get better as the week progressed.   The first image was taken from the top of Mannlichen (I think) on day one, the second on day two when we went to Murren and this mountain top was across the valley from Murren.   I liked the suggestion of a recession of the tops.   The third photograph was taken on the last day and with the two viewing stations in the bottom left of the image, the insignificant size of the visitors underscores the vastness of the Bernese Oberland - in this instance near Grindlewald.

Wengen II - Reunion

There is a panoramic function on the small compact Sony camera I have with me most of the time, and I used it a couple of times in the Wengen area.

The first is the lake at Bachsee which is near First, near Grindlewald.   It was the first time I'd been there and I was very surprised to see so many people were there.   I could well imagine it being an amazing destination in different weather conditions and particularly if the mountains were reflected in the water - not so on this occasion.

The second panorama was taken from the top of the lift at Mannlichen, out of Wengen, and the weather conditions were much better on this occasion than the first morning we were there when there wasn't a view at all!   A panorama gives some indication of the vastness of the place.

Wengen July 2016

We shall soon be having a reunion when those of us from the Cambridge Camera Club who had a week in Wengen in July will be sharing a few images over a bring and share supper.   It was the second time I'd been to Wengen during the summer and before that Robin and I had had a ski holiday there, in 1985 I think.   On the winter trip we stayed in Lauterbrunnen which meant we already had a seat on the train before reaching Wengen - such an advantage!

On this trip I enjoyed taking landscape photographs and had taken a telephoto lens which came into its own in such a vast area.   All three photographs were taken on a day trip up the Jungfrau.   The first two were from the viewing station at the top and the third one is of snow and ice on the North Face of the Eiger, taken from the higher viewing station on the train journey.   All three show how insignificant the human species can appear - not that there are any people in the third image.

Only a vestige of mist left by the time the dogs and I got to the river this morning.

Autumn Morning

There was both a mist, in a hollow, and a pastel coloured sunrise this morning.   The light looking towards the sun was in contrast to the subtle and beautiful shades of pink and blue in the opposite direction - the West.

Sparrow Hawk on driveway

On the day I was getting ready to have a week away in the middle of September, I spied this Sparrow Hawk through the window.   Thankfully there was a camera to hand with a suitable lens so was able to get a few shots before the Hawk and its prey (a Collared Dove I think) disappeared.   It would have been great to have photographed it carrying its prey but it was gone so swiftly even with something in its beak which must have been as water logged as the Hawk!

Cattle

The notice on the gate said there was a 'Bull in Field' but he wasn't make his presence known.   Initially the cow was licking the face of its calf and then transfered the behaviour to the nearby cow (not bull).   Don't know what interpretation to put on the behaviour - so just recording it!

Birds and Bike

Baits Bite this morning.

I like the shadow of the head and neck of one Canada Goose on the other.   The morning light is magical at this time of year and provides searing lights in the eyes of birds.

As for the bicycle;  I don't think I've seen a 'rescued' bike underneath the arches of the A14 crossing The Cam before.   I guess it has been in the river, but not for that long because the tyres and hand grips haven't deteriorated that much.   Thoroughly mis-shapen wheels give it quite a graphic shape.   I found myself reflecting on its history - how many owners (legitimate and not), short or long bike rides, why dumped here, why get it out of the river, who might be missing it, and now what.............?

Mist at Bottisham Lock

Yet again there are plenty of photographs I should like to get posted.   I had a week along the Sussex coastline recently and would like to produce a book of images from that time away.   Time will tell!!!   I shall also get some posted as I edit them.

This morning called out to be beside the river and that is where the dogs and I spent a magical hour before the sun burnt off the mist.    The waterfowl in each instance is Great Crested Grebe and there was still an adult prepared to take fish to a youngster (not included)!
